 Brenna/Mack - The Distance Between

"Why, your friend gets lonely quick?"

Brenna shrugs. "Yeah, I guess." She pauses with a frown. Something in his tone...

"Oh." She can feel her cheeks turning pink as the implication of what she said and the implication of what he said sinks in. "No. He's not a friend. Just a boy I picked up off the street and took back to my room."

That doesn't sound much better, Mack says with a chuckle.

"Er, no. It's not like... he's not my... we, uh." Embarrassment is making her tongue clumsy and she pauses trying to collect her thoughts. "We aren't lovers," she manages to choke out.

We long for simpler days when heroes could be good, evil could be killed and the line between wasn’t faded and despised. And we must choose to let our hearts cloud and fail or fight the stilling of our souls in these weary days.

"Ah. Just a good Samaritian. I lived on good Samaritans when I was was...younger."

He thought of Mercutio again, and poured his soup into Brenna's bowl.

"Knock yourself out. Ill be in the gym. You responsible adults can figure something out."

He started towards the door. It wasnt very far in the cramped galley.

We longed for the days when life was simple: when you woke up at 7:30 for school and got home at 2:00. We long for the days of elementry school.

Kitsune clambered out of the increasingly small closet he had been assigned. Muttering under his breath, he moodily stomped back towards the galley. Torq was just leaving it.

"Hey, when do we go to pick up my ship?" he asked casually. "And exactly what did you do to the ship?" His eyes narrowed. "It's not exactly a cheap make, you know."

Torq stoped short and looked up at Kitsune's frowning face.

"Its not biggy, shouldn't take more than ten minutes to fix. You figure out when you want to go after it and ill help you out. Ill be in my workshop getting something ready for it."

Torq turned and walked towards his workshop.

"Oh and, you might want to try a cheap make sometime. This I made myself, and it has everything." He said over his shoulder with a smirk.

He entered the workshop and shed his jacket and shirt into a corner. After a little digging, he set to work rigging a patch for Kitsune's ship. The long scar running diagonly across his back rippled as he worked.

Kitsune glared after Torq, then headed back into the galley. He ignored Brenna and went to the small galley fridge. "It's not a biggy. Yeah right. Where does he keep the beer in here?"

He glanced over at Brenna. "Did he show you where it is?"

Brenna watches as Kitsune rummages around in the fridge.

"Where does he keep the beer in here?" He glances at Brenna with a vague scowl. "Did he show you where it is?"

She swallows the last mouthful of noodles and shakes her head. "No beer." She puts the bowl in the sink. "I don't think he drinks anything stronger than grape soda."

Kitsune makes a sour face, then sits on the delapidated couch. "Figures."
He sighs and stretches, then lays out along the couch. "He probably cut a huge chunk out of my ship and left it there for looters." He idly began picking at the bare connectors on his shoulder.
